Construction of a clay oven at the mother-child-residence, Goethestraße 4 in Berlin- Lichterfelde
The contruction was an offering to unskilled young mothers. The joint work enabled them to explore manifold technical abilities, such as planning, measuring, concrete and brick work, earth building and woodworking. At the same time they could learn the handling with technical tools and discover new occupational fields.
Preparatory meetings and a workshop on earth building
Construction phase: one construction day by the week, dependent on drying phases, materials and weather conditions.
Adjustment of the construction side: fabrication of the foundation, bricking of socket and chimney, sand form, bricking of the oven notch, applying of the earthen layers, plastering and building of the roof construction
All work steps were accompanied by short training lectures.
Finally the oven was broken in at a summer party. The builders learned how to operate the oven.
All participants received a certificate for their application papers.
