Project target
Construction of a clay oven with self-helpers
The oven can be used for feasts, public events and similar activities.
Project steps
The socket (made from bricks and concrete) and the roof were built by external personnel in Spring 2008. Afterwards the baking surface and the vault were constructed from firebricks and clay. The vault consists of several layers, which were applied on a sand form:
- bed of clay with chaff, about 5 cm
- willow frame
- bed of clay with chaff, about 15 cm
- light clay mixed with straw, about 12 cm
- underlying surface with jute fabric, about 2 cm
- final rendering, about 1 cm
At the 5th of July, the Long Day of Urban Nature 2008, the oven has been broken in.
