Eco-friendly Construction - Earth Building

In connection with climate protection and the economical handling of energy eco-friendly or sustainable construction is gradually gaining in importance. Central criteria are the consumption of primary products and energy, the recycling possibilities, the waste discharge during the service life of a building and the impact of the used construction materials on the living climate. The application of renewable primary products such as wood, hemp or straw is as important as the use of sustainable energy resources (solar and bio energy, hydro and wind technology, geothermal power) and measures of energy conservation.
Clay is particularly suitable for eco-friendly construction. It is regionally available, at its fabrication low energy costs incur and it could be completely recycled. Due to its physical properties clay regulates humidity and temperature and therefore has a positive effect on the room climate.
In 1996 BAUFACHFRAU Berlin e.V. included earth building as professional specialisation and has since then carried out a multitude of different projects. From 2002 to 2005 the association took part in the development of the European training course ‚Clay Plaster and Interior Design’. Cooperation partners from six countries were involved in the project. The training material has been translated into several languages.

Renewable Energies

A drastic reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is the only means to counter climate change. Also it is necessary to be independent from foreign energy imports. At present the expansion of renewable energies and the improvement of energy efficiency are exceedingly promoted by the German Government. The industrial sector of renewable energies is thriving and also in Berlin and Brandenburg a promising job market arises. Integral part of our project work is the introduction of renewable energies to a broad public. They are a crucial issue in our educations projects on sustainable development carried out in schools.
