A tool house on the site of the Domäne Dahlem should be used for show-and-tell of traditional clay building techniques. The house is located in a hilly area and only visible from the south and west side. These sides should be filled in with clay, applying different earth building techniques. Windows should serve for viewing. For the north and east side a wood lagging was planned.
At first the wood lagging was built. Larch wood was chosen because it is weatherproof und doesn’t need wood preservation. The earth building project took place at the pottery market from May, 10th to 11th 2003. There was immense interest in the traditional craft. Different earth building and plastering techniques were explained. Afterwards the open infill panels were filled in with different techniques. The children got their own bucket of clay to create their particular designs.
