Project target

Planning and construction of an earthen community house as meeting place for common activities and intercultural exchange
The community house consists of a leisure room with a kitchenette, two toilets, one of them in handicap accessible design.

Project steps

After completion of the permit and execution planning following crafts were executed: construction of fundaments, bottom plate and socket, erection of the timber post structure and the ridge roof. 

  • Building of the green roof
  • Brick work with adobes
  • Fabrication and installation of the partition wall insulation made from light clay mixed with straw
  • Installation of doors, windows and window shutters
  • Rendering of inner and outer walls
  • Tiling
  • Wooden lagging of the roof pitch
  • Paintwork 

The waterproofing of the roof and the sanitary and electric installation have been carried out by speciality firms.
Earth building expert Irmela Fromme taught introductory courses and gave practical instruction.
