Project target

Girls design, construct and service their own sports elements. The mobile elements can be used in- and outdoors. The workshop involves girls in the arrangement of their quarter und improves their technical abilities. Sports and physical activity are playfully combined with vocational orientation.

Project steps

The project accompanied by an architect, a cabinet maker and a pedagogue is carried out in five steps:

• The playground checkers check out places and sports elements and explore favourite types of movement.
• The ideas workshop develops ideas for mobile sports elements by model making. From these fanciful models resulted miniature golf elements, skater chutes, swings, stilts, balancing, bouncing and climbing elements.
• The construction workshop constructs, tests and develops prototypes of mobile elements. From the variety of models skater and miniature golf elements were selected, but also a dragon float was built.
• The rental workshop: In selected youth centres renting stations are arranged.
• The sports workshop offers versatile and age appropriate courses teaching how to use the mobile sports elements.

Awards

In 2006 the project won two prizes: the third prize of the „Golden Imp“ of the Children’s Charity of Germany and the recognition award of the Hamburg-Mannheimer-Foundation „Youth and Future“.
